Family:  Ictaluridae (North American freshwater catfishes)
Max. size:  29 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 7 years
Environment:  demersal; freshwater, non-migratory
Distribution:  North America: Atlantic Piedmont and Coastal Plain from Roanoke River drainage in Virginia, USA to Altamaha River drainage in Georgia, USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults occur in mud-bottomed, sand-bottomed, or rock-bottomed pools of small to large rivers. Also found in lakes, impoundments and ponds (Ref. 54507, 10294). They feed on aquatic insects, small fishes, and snails (Ref. 10294).

Threat to humans:  harmless
