Family:  Paralichthyidae (Large-tooth flounders)
Max. size:  25 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 4 - 110 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: North Carolina to Florida in USA and the entire Gulf of Mexico.
Diagnosis:  Eyed side brownish with 4 ocelli with whitish centers: 1 on caudal peduncle, 2 in vertical line between dorsal and anal fins, and another above arch in lateral line.
Biology:  Occurs in bays, lagoons and shallow coastal waters.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 31 January 2013 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
