Max. size:  17.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Southeast Atlantic: Saldanha Bay to East London in South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 40-45; Dorsal soft rays (total): 2-4; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 28-31. Juveniles whitish with dark longitudinal stripes which become faint in adults; adults with light-edged dark ocellus on shoulder (Ref. 5496).
Biology:  Found in tide pools and subtidal areas.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 03 May 2010 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
