Family:  Acestrorhamphidae (American tetras), subfamily: Rhoadsiinae
Max. size:  5.59 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Central America: Pacific and Atlantic drainages from Nicaragua to Panama.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Lives exclusively near the shoreline, river backwaters or other stagnant biotopes between 35 and 85 m elevation. Found near vegetation, feeding mainly on filamentous algae and occasionally on aquatic insects (Ref. 36880).
