Family:  Exocoetidae (Flyingfishes)
Max. size:  30 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-oceanic; marine; depth range 0 - 20 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Gulf of Aden to 140°E (Ref. 9839 and 27313, but probably in error for 140°W), common in central and western Oceania.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 10-13
Biology:  Found in oceanic and neritic surface waters (Ref. 30573). Capable of leaping out of the water and gliding above the surface (Ref. 30573). Feeds mainly on planktonic organisms and small fish (Ref. 9839).
