Family:  Ariidae (Sea catfishes), subfamily: Ariinae
Max. size:  48 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish
Distribution:  Oceania: Purari, Fly-Strickland and Digul river systems in central-southern New Guinea and Roper River system in the Northern Territory, Australia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 1-1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-7; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 17-19
Biology:  Inhabits slow-flowing, often turbid rivers and coastal waters. Also occurs in slow-moving freshwater streams, favours turbid coastal shallows and brackish estuaries (Ref. 44894). Feeds on gastropod and bivalve mollusks. The food are swallowed whole (Ref. 44894).
