Family:  Spratelloididae (Small round herrings)
Max. size:  5.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 50 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Venezuela. Status of threat from Ref. 11858.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Anal spines: 0-0; Vertebrae: 38-39. Pre-maxillae toothed, triangular; 1 supra-maxilla; isthmus broadly triangular, pointed anteriorly; W-shaped pelvic scute; vertebrae 38 or 39 (usually 39); silver lateral band becoming narrower and fading anteriorly.
Biology:  A pelagic school-forming species found near coral reefs. Feeds on zooplankton.
