Family:  Ictaluridae (North American freshwater catfishes)
Max. size:  7.4 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater, non-migratory
Distribution:  North America: upper Green River drainage in Kentucky and Tennessee, USA; 1 record from Roaring River (Cumberland River drainage) in Tennessee (Ref. 86798). Individuals from the Duck River originally allocated to N. elegans are N. fasciatus, the latter restricted to the Duck River system and two minor tributaries of the lower arm of the Tennessee River, Tennessee (Ref. 56218).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit rocky riffles and runs of clear creeks and small rivers (Ref. 86798).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 01 March 2012 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
