Family:  Ictaluridae (North American freshwater catfishes)
Max. size:  13 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 5 years
Environment:  demersal; freshwater, non-migratory
Distribution:  North America: Ohio River basin from northwestern Pennsylvania to eastern Illinois, and south to Tennessee and northern Georgia in the USA; White and St. Francis River drainages in Missouri and Arkansas, USA; Mississippi River in western Tennessee, USA; Ouachita River and Red River drainages in the USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit clean rocky riffles, shoals and runs of small to large rivers. Often found near vegetation (Ref. 5723, 10294). They feed on larvae of aquatic insects, dominated by mayflies (Ref. 10294).
