Family:  Apogonidae (Cardinalfishes), subfamily: Apogoninae
Max. size:  7.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 5 - 60 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: southern Florida (USA), Bahamas, and northeastern Gulf of Mexico to Venezuela.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in coral reefs and rocky bottoms, frequently inhabiting cylindrical sponges like Verongia fistularis, Callyspongia plicifera, and Callyspongia vaginalis (Ref. 9626).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 10 March 2011 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
