Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Smiliogastrinae
Max. size:  7.83 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-7; Anal soft rays: 5-5; Vertebrae: 36-37. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: a single pair of oral barbels; 51-56 scales in lateral-line series; fewer vertebrae and absence o dark spots on its back (Ref. 133015).
Biology:  The species inhabit streams with average width and depth of 3 meters and 0.5 meters, respectively. They dwell predominantly on boulders and cobbles substratum (Ref. 133015).
