Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  25 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi.
Diagnosis:  Description: most predatory looking Stigmatochromis species; large jaws; lower jaw clearly prognathous; large eyes (Ref. 55954).
Biology:  Larger specimens are normally encountered over the open sand at deeper levels. Piscivorous. Hunts its prey over the sand (Ref. 5595); usually in pairs or in large groups (Ref. 3817).
