Recently recorded from Tonga (Ref. 53797). Subspecies, <i>Plectropomus pessuliferus marisburi</i> occurs in the Red Sea, while <i>Plectropomus pessuliferus pessuliferus</i> from the rest of the Indo-Pacific region (Ref. 3150).
