The original description of <i>Pristis microdon</i> did not give a locality, but most authors have used the name <i>Pristis microdon</i> for the Indo-West Pacific sawfishes of this species group as contrasted from the Atlantic <i>Pristis perotteti</i> and the eastern Pacific <i>Pristis zephyreus</i>.
