The ranges of <i>S. aequifasciatus</i> and <i>S. tarzoo</i> are roughly divided by the Purus arch (located between Manaus and Rio Bauana) with only a few <i>S. tarzoo</i> specimens from the Madeira river downstream of the arch, and no <i>S. aequifasciatus</i> specimens from locations upstream of the arch.
