Etymology: Aphyocharax: Greek, aphye, -es, sardine, anchovy + Greek, charax = a marine fish; diminutive (Ref. 45335).

Taxonomic Remarks
This species is synonym of Aphyocharax alburnus (Günther, 1869) in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Jul. 2010: Ref. 84883) according to Willink et al. (2003:: Ref. 49521). Please send references, or more studies are needed.
