生態学
海 底生の; 深さの範囲 27 - 2198 m (Ref. 58018), usually 27 - 247 m (Ref. 96339). Tropical
Eastern Central Pacific: western coast of Mexico, Central and South America from the southern Gulf of California to Colombia. Not recorded from any of the oceanic islands of the eastern Pacific.

背面の脊椎 (合計) : 0; 肛門の骨: 0; 脊つい: 118 - 122. Moderately elongate, small species with short, bluntly-rounded snout and a dark margin on the dorsal fin anteriorly. Preanal lateral line pores 19-27, predorsal length 20-26% TL (Ref. 50529). Caudal fin broadly rounded (Ref. 50529).
Body shape (shape guide): eel-like; Cross section: oval.
Adults are secretive and bottom-dwelling and prefer soft substrata where they can burrow with their tails (Ref. 28023). Oviparous, with planktonic leptocephali (Ref. 35590).
