背棘 (總數) : 0; 背的軟條 (總數) : 13 - 21; 臀棘: 0; 臀鰭軟條: 12 - 23. Belly sharply keeled; a well-developed first (anterior) supra-maxilla (cf. Platanichthys platana); hind border of gill opening evenly rounded; no retrorse spine on upper part of maxilla (cf. Rhinosardinia). Closely resembles the Pacific L. stolifera, but caudal fin tips not black. The very bright silver stripe along flank distinguishes it from other similar clupeids in the area.
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal; Cross section: compressed.
腹面銳利地龍骨; 一個發展良好的第一個 (前面的) 上顎骨 (比較 孔頭鯡〔Platanichthys platana〕 ); 鰓裂的後部邊緣均勻地圓的; 沒有在顎骨 (比較 Rhinosardinia) 的上半部上的逆向的棘. 非常近似太平洋的 L. stolifera, 但是尾鰭頂端不是黑色的。 非常亮銀色斑紋沿著側面在區域中區別它與其他的相似鯡魚。
Occurs inshore, over muddy bottoms and in brackish or hyper-saline littoral lagoons (Ref. 5217). Forms schools.
