No suborbital ridge developed; scales spinules numerous, small, sharp, conical, in irregularly divergent to roughly quincunx pattern. Pyloric caeca 12 to 16. Overall color is brown or grayish brown; fins somewhat darker.
Body shape (shape guide): elongated; Cross section: circular.
Feeds on cephalopods, at least at larger sizes.
