Etymology: Pectenocypris: Greek, pekten = comb, metacarpus + Kypris, other name for Aphrodite, proceeding from Cyprus (Kypris); Greek, kyprinos = carp (Ref. 45335); balaena: The name balaena, also the scientific name of the baleen whale, refers to the numerous gill rakers of this species.
