Etymology: Alticorpus: Latin, altus = nutritious + Latin, corpus = body (Ref. 45335); peterdaviesi: Named after Peter Davies, an exporter of fishes from Lake Malawi (Ref. 55908).
Eponymy: Peter Davies was a fish exporter of Lake Malawi. He was honoured for his help in securing many fishes of the lake for photography and study. (Also see Henny Davies) (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Occurs in areas with a bottom deposit of diatom ooze (Ref. 267). Probably feeds on diatoms (Ref. 5595).
