Etymology: Eckloniaichthys: Because of Christian Friedrich Ecklon, 1795-1868; Danish botanical collector with Darwin + Greek, ichthys = fish.
Eponymy: This is not a direct eponym as the species and genus are named after the kelp Ecklonia in which they tend to live. The kelp was named after Christian Friedrich Ecklon (1795–1868) a Danish botanical collector. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
