Taggstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 15 - 19; Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 112 - 132; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 81 - 98; Ryggkotor: 85 - 92. Diagnosis: 14+1 to 18+1 (median 16+1) dorsal spines; distance from anterior border of snout to last externally visible dorsal spine relatively short, 37.1-44.2% SL (m=40.9), decreasing with size; as a result origin of soft dorsal fin far anterior to origin of soft anal fin (Ref. 57415, 81678).
Body shape (shape guide): eel-like.
All type specimens were caught in the region of the rapids characterized by a swift current of crystal clear water flowing over a predominantly rock, stone or gravel substrate with small areas of coarse yellow sand; however, this species is also found in a wide variety of habitats such as turbid, sandy lagoons with a sluggish flow of water, heavily shaded, rocky or pebbly, clear swift streams, and exposed, pot-holed bedrock pools (Ref. 81678). Maximum reported TL was 271mm (Ref. 57415, 81678).
