Etymology: Kumba: Named for the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, whose research vessel Sarsia dredged the type species; maculisquama: From the characteristic feature of the species, presence of the isolated 'islets' of scales near the nostrils.

পৃষ্ঠীয় কাঁটা (মোট ) : 2. A rather soft, large, inflated head; small head pores. Dorsally scaleless snout extend onto forehead. Orbit diameter about 29% of head length; snout almost equal to orbit, about 1.1 into broad interorbital (33% HL in width). Rudimentary barbel, less than 3% HL. Well developed ADW and PDW, at either end of the long periproct region, separated by a narrow isthmus. 1D II,9 (Ref. 11651).
