Etymology: Eurycheilichthys: Greek, eurys = long + Greek, cheilos = lip + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335); pantherinus: Specific epithet 'pantherinus' refers to the distinctive color pattern (resembling the color pattern of the largest South American field cat (Panthera onca).
