Etymology: Characidium: Diminutive of Charax, -akos = a fish without identification (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: A toponym: Boa Vista is the capital of Brazilian state of Roraima, on the western bank of the Rio Branco, which is where the holotype originated. The binomial is often wrongly spelled boavistae, without the first e. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
