Etymology: Polyipnus: Greek, poly = a lot of + Greek, ipnos = lanterns; latirastrus: The specific name is a combination of the Latin latus, meaning side, and rastrum, meaning comb or rake, in reference to the exceptionally long spinelike denticles on the scales covering the lateral surfaces of many of the photophores.
