Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 12; Rayons mous anaux: 8. Differs from all other species of the genus in Indochina by the following combination of characters: a complete black bar at caudal-fin base; adults with 11-15 dark bars on body regularly shaped and set wider than interspaces, not forming dark blotches along lateral line and usually meeting their homologues on postdorsal part of the body; predorsal part of back sometimes marbled by irregular spots and saddles; inner anal stripe faint; caudal fin slightly emarginate; pelvic fin origin slightly anterior to dorsal fin origin or below simple dorsal-fin rays (Ref. 40772).
