Etymology: Oligolepis: Greek, oligos = small + Greek, lepis = scale (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Apurba Kumar Das was the Officer-in-Charge, Zoological Survey of India, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Station. He made specimens of the goby available for study. He co-authored Glimpses of Animal Life of Andaman & Nicobar Islands (1985). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
