Etymology: Apistogramma: Greek, apisto = uncertain + Greek, gramma = graphic signal (Ref. 45335); pantalone: Named for the character Pantalone (Pantaloon), a mainstay of the performances of the original Commedia Dell Arte. The names relates to the unusual courtship behaviour of this fish, often somewhat stiff or clumsy unsuccessful old suitor of young girls.
