Etymology: Leucoraja: Greek, leykos = white + Latin, raja = a fish, Raja sp. (Ref. 45335); pristispina: Name from Greek 'pristis' for saw and the Latin 'spina' for thorn or backbone, refers to the rows of thorns on the midline of the disc and tail.
