Additional characters useful for its identification include lower caudal peduncle (7.6-9.0 vs. 9.3-11.0 in Otothyropsis marapoama and 9.7-11.5% SL in Otothyropsis piribebuy), deeper caudal peduncle (7.6-9.0 vs. 6.2-7.6% SL in Otothyropsis polyodon); and dorsal-fin spinelet triangular in shape (vs. spinelet rectangular or quadrangular) (Ref. 93039).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Commensal with midge larvae (Chironomidae) which are attached to the gill opening or more rarely to the posterior process of the cleithrum (Ref. 93039).
