It is a member of species group (O. bergianus, O. euphraticus, O longipinnis, O. karunensis, O. kurdistanicus, O. parvinae) with suborbital groove in males (vs. absent in O. chomanicus, O. frenatus, O. gyndes, O. kiabii and O. zagrosensis) and caudal fin deeply emarginate (vs. slightly emarginate or truncate in O. chomanicus, O frenatus, . gyndes, O kiabii and O. zagrosensis) (Ref. 115651).
