Etymology: Dussumieria: In honor of Dussumier, a collaborator of Cuvier, who sent him collections of fishes from the Indian Ocean (Ref. 45335); modakandai: Name derived from two vernacular words in Tamil language, 'moda' for soft and 'kandai' for fish, jointly for soft fish; as an adjective.
