Etymology: Homatula: Greek, homos, homoios = similar + Greek, atylos, atylotos = without callosities; shexiang: Name 'shexiang' in honor of Mrs. She Xiang (奢香夫人), an outstanding female politician and the leader of the Yi nationality in Guizhou Province during the Min Dynasty, who built the Wugong Bridge which is the type locality of the species.
