Etymology: Betta: Malay/Javanese origin. Bleeker (1850, 1858) indicates Ikan Wadder Bettah as the local name of Betta trifasciata Bleeker, 1849 (now Betta picta, Valenciennes, 1846) in the Ambarawa Javanese dialect. Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Facultative air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Specimens were collected in February 2005 in a slowly flowing creek which was only 20 to 50 cm deep; the water was clear and slightly tanned, bed covered densely with leaf litter; water
data pH 6.3, 82 µS/cm and 25.5°C. From another creek, where the species was collected, pH 6.5, 69 µS/cm and 26.6 °C (Ref. 78499).
