Etymology: Betta: Malay/Javanese origin. Bleeker (1850, 1858) indicates Ikan Wadder Bettah as the local name of Betta trifasciata Bleeker, 1849 (now Betta picta, Valenciennes, 1846) in the Ambarawa Javanese dialect. Facultative air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Specimens were collected in February 2005 in a slowly flowing creek which was only 20 to 50 cm deep; the water was clear and slightly tanned, bed covered densely with leaf litter; water
data pH 6.3, 82 µS/cm and 25.5°C. From another creek, where the species was collected, pH 6.5, 69 µS/cm and 26.6 °C (Ref. 78499).
